Dreams That Foretold Disasters
Dreams interpretation can also be wrong and misleading.
The following examples in history of premonitory dreams that proved to be disastrously wrong.
Story No.1:
The Roman historian Valerius Maximus recordedthat Hannibal was encouraged to lead the troops of his native Carthage to invade Italy in 219BCE by an angelic figurethat appeared to him in his sleep. “Go!”the apparition told him. ” the fates are there to be accomplished” Hannibal went, but despite a brilliant campaign, failed to crush Rome. He ended up taking poison to avoid the humiliation of defeat and capture.
Story No.2
The fifth-century-BCE Persian emperor Xerxes was impelled by a figure that appeared to him in a dream to invade Greece against the advice of his generals. According to Herodotus, the apparition cameto Xerxes twice and then to his advisor Artabanus, bearing the same message. Yet the emperor’s forces suffered disastrous defeats at the battles of Salamis and Plataea and were driven out of Greece bring to an end Persian dreams of conquering the country.
