Faces of Rudraksha and their benefits
Amongst the different types/faces of the Rudraksha, the uncommon are those more than 16 faceted beads. The reason being that in each seasonal harvest of Rudrakshas it usually yields plenty of the two- to 16-faceted beads but only one or two of the ones with more faces, with the 21-faceted bead being particularly rare.

Curative Effect of Rudraksha
As mentioned earlier, Rudraksha can cure a large number of diseases. Some of which are described below:
- If a nine faced Rudraksha is grated with milk and consumed three times it will cure all kinds of coughs
- All kinds of hysteria, fainting and other problems of the mind are removed by boiling the four-faced Rudraksha with milk and the milk consumed for twenty days
- Rudraksha consumed with curd, milk or cream is beneficial for high blood pressure.

Part 2 of this series of article on Rudraksha attempt to explain the precautions while wearing the Rudraksha, the ways/suggestions to choose and wear the Rudraksha.
Precautions necessary while wearing Rudraksha
It is important to use a genuine Rudraksha since there are a lot of fake which can be made of cardboards.
- It’s important to buy from a proper source
- A fake Rudraksha will float in water but a real one would settle at the bottom of the water.
- Do not wear a Rudraksha which has been eaten away by insects and pests
- Do not wear a Rudraksha which is broken or chipped
- Do not wear a Rudraksha which was broken while a hole was being made in it
How To Choose & How To Wear A Rudraksha:
- Basically, the lighter the bead, the better; the Rudraksha from Nepal that has a natural hole and is brown in colour is highly recommended (The beads produced in India are called Bhadrakshas and they do not have natural holes and the ones from Indonesia are called Indrakshas; these beads do not have easily visible lines.)
- The bead should be worn around the neck on a gold or silver chain or on a cotton tread. It should hang as low as the chest.
- Its bead can be imbedded in gold or silver threads. Red colored thread can also be used
- The Rudraksha must be prayed every day to ensure wealth and affluence
- The greatest benefit is available to those who wear a necklace of 108 beads
- Success comes forty days after wearing it on the proviso that full faith must be adhere to by the wearer
- The best time to first start wearing it is either on a new or full moon day; once you do put it on, do not let anyone else touch it. Keep it in a safe place when not in use.
- Astrologers say the bead has enormous power to mitigate the negative period in an individual’s horoscope; they will usually recommend an appropriate bead to ease adverse planetary effects.
- The smaller Rudraksha is more beneficial for meditation and prayers. It is advisable to use the bigger Rudraksha for curing illnesses.

We have been hearing about the sacred Tibetan Dzi which is omnipotent. However, have we hear of another potent bead which is called Rudraksha or better known as the “divine bead” which can change negative energies into positive one.
It is commonly found in Nepal which is called Rudraksha, Bhadrakshas in India and Indrakshas in Indonesia.
What is Rudraksha?
The Rudraksha is really seeds from the Rudraksha tree. The bead’s scientific name is Elaeocarpus ganitrus (Roxb) and it comes in an irregular oval shape with clefts on its surface called “faces”. Most of the Rudraksha’s powers are associated with the number of faces it has. This can vary from one to 21, though four-, five- and six-faceted beads are the most common.
The Rudraksha bead is shaped liked our brain which is one major reason that this bead was recognized by ancient sages and seers in India as a divine fruit.
Myths surrounding the Rudraksha:
According to Hindu scriptures/books like Shiv Puran, Ling Puran, the Padam Puran and others, Rudraksha is considered a gift from Lord Shiva. It suppose to provide freedom from worldly sorrows and impediments and provides spiritual and intellectual growth. It was believed that the bead was created from tears shed by Lord Shiva (an important deity of Vedic age) when the world was facing destruction. The legend says that tears from his eyes dropped onto the ground in different places on earth and produced Rudraksha trees.

Recent researches confirmed/proven that the Rudraksha has powerful electromagnetic, paramagnetic and inductive properties that vary according to the different faces.
